He has released many tracks on elite labels such as Hot Creations and performed at numerous Elrow parties around the world. He is from Essex, UK and everything he touches turns to gold. He’s been in the house/techno scene since 2011, with a rapidly growing of popularity Max Chapman shows no sign of slowing down. Having a few hot tracks under his belt that many other artists play - he just released his new FREEKWANCEE EP and is climbing fast on Beatport. Electric Vibes had the pleasure of interviewing the talented artist.
How does it feel to be a part of the Hot Creations family?
“Amazing – Hot Creations has always been that one label I aspired to be on since I got into dance music, so to have released a #1 with them is a huge achievement.”
What was your favorite elrow party you performed at?
“Amnesia is my favorite club in the world so I’d normally have said that one, but then the show I played for them in Barcelona on New Year’s Day 2017 was unreal. It’s their biggest show of the year and opens at 9 AM – I played at midday which is the peak time set, so that was definitely one I’ll never forget.”
What does elrow mean to you?
“I always feel sorry for the poor bastard who has to blow up all the inflatables.”
‘La Fiesta’ has been a popular song, how does it feel when other artists play it?
“It’s an amazing feeling whenever anyone plays a track you’ve written, and that one had so much support that it blew me away really."
Who was your favorite DJ that you’ve worked with?
“I’d have to say George Smeddles. He’s really easy to work with and our studio sessions always result in something decent – we’ve got the same way of working and just bounce ideas off each other all day.”
Do you listen to other music besides techno and house?
“Not really to be honest – I do listen to a bit of old 80s music, but that’s about it. I don’t really get that much spare time to listen to other music if I’m not listening to promos then I’m producing or playing out. That said, I just got back from a week in Tenerife and I didn’t listen to any music at all week, that was quite refreshing."
What artists do you listen to that inspires you?
“Right now I’ve been listening to Bicep’s album pretty much every day – if you haven’t heard it I suggest you go check it out.”
When on tour what kind of food do you eat?
“I don’t eat meat so I find it’s actually quite hard to eat well while I’m on tour – I always end up eating crisps and crap. I’ve promised myself to make more of an effort this year though so ask me again in 12 months and you might get a different answer!”
What’s on the horizon for Max Chapman? Have you got any big plans or announcements for 2018?
“I’m really excited about playing more in the US this year actually – I’ve got Groove Cruise Miami at the end of January, CRSSD Festival in March, obviously I’m playing Brooklyn on the 17th Feb, and then I’m also due to play Denver, Ottawa, Detroit, Chicago and more over the next few months too. Other than that, I’ve been working hard in the studio and there are a few big releases lined up already for this year which I think are some of my best tracks yet.”
Max Chapman has a huge year ahead of him - already on a few lineups to perform at festivals and the year just began. It’s just been announced that Max will be performing at the annual Toolroom in Stereo pool party during Miami Music Week. Max will be performing at Brooklyn’s Analog on February 17th, tickets are still available. Max Chapman is a forced to be reckoned with his groovy tunes and fun performances and is passionate about the underground scene and his career. If Max Chapman is playing in a city near you, it will be a huge regret if you miss his performance.
