We Are NRG is unlike many insomanic festivals, while it is held in the famous NOS Event Center in San Bernardino—it doesn’t have the extra glitz and glam like other festivals held at its location like Beyond Wonderland.
Festival goers that attend NRG are truly there for the music. This year on May 19th and May 20th festival goers were blessed with a lineup that was hard to miss. Day two of NRG sold out and it also brought out spectacular vibes. One artist who stood out from the crowd was Trippy Turtle.
Trippy Turtle is an anonymous genre blending DJ who can make an entire stage vibrate with good energy. Even the floor vibrates with his heavy bass. You feel the happy vibes in your heart with his amazing visuals and unique sound. You just can't help but to shake your booty.
Trippy included it all in his set, from nostalgic mixes from R Kelly, pop, some deep house and happy trap. He is one DJ you won’t ever forget. Trippy effortlessly took the crowd to away to a new place they’ve never been. We were lucky enough to get an exclusive interview with the Turtle.
How did you start out?
I've been making music since I was a hatchling. Playing clam shells and symbols, drums are my favorite. I'm from the Nordic sea so pretty much middle of nowhere compared to LA, my current home. There wasn't really much to do except swim around so I started making music.
Who inspires your music?
It's really more of a what inspires me. Nature and my surroundings. Friends, relationships. I try to make a beat a day based on what I ate for breakfast whether that was jellyfish, seaweed, crabs, shrimp, sponges, snails, algae or mollusks (my favorite).
Are you going to release new music at edc?
Turtles don't produce and tell.
In 5 words how would you describe yourself or music?
Why the turtle?
I was born this way! If it was up to me, I'd be a bear...my boy Baile Bear is the coolest dude I know. You should check him out - his music will make you salsa the night away.
Is there a lady turtle?
Well, you see, I actually have a thing for bunnies.
Are there any artists you would to collaborate with?
Dream turtle collab would be Missy Elliott, Calvin Harris or Lil Wayne. They're all SO fofo.
How do you get Trippy?
It's all about the lettuce. If you find yourself some good salad you'll be chillin getting trippy all day. Lettuce lettuce lettuce mmm.
What's your creative process look like?
I usually get the whole fofo gang in the stu and we just hangout. Faded Fox always brings the good lettuce and Drippy Dolphin brings steady vibes. Pretty Pandas never go anywhere without each other, so it gets pretty wild in there. My studio is a zoo - we always cook up the magic.
If you want to go on a adventure with Trippy make sure to see him at the Circuit Grounds at EDC on June 16th.
