This past week was an experience of a lifetime. My very first Groove Cruise!
Our journey began on a cold and grey Monday morning in NYC. We flew down to the Port of Miami where we were greeted by hundreds of Groove Cruisers. Many were already decked out in colorful costumes such as X-Men super-heroes and fairy-tale princesses.
We were welcomed with cocktails and warm smiles from the crew as we boarded the massive Carnival Victory! It was nothing but good vibes from that moment on. The ship had 12 luxurious floors and a lot to explore. We began at the buffet, which became our regular stop to refuel along with the 24-hour pizza bar. The first party was “Sailaway” at the main pool where we danced our way around the deck to Croatia Squad, Sam Feldt, and Lavelle Dupree. The view of Miami was breathtaking as we left the port. I could tell this was going to be something special.
Next, we made our way through the casino rockin to the smooth techno beats of Sydney Blu, and then to Arctic Room, which was dark and perfect for all the dirty house beats by Dean Mason, whose set was definitely the highlight of the night. His hit single “Addicted” had the packed club bouncing and became our theme song as we heard it repeatedly throughout the entire voyage.
We ended our night with the Markus Schulz infamous 5 hour set that took us down the rabbit hole in the main theater. The space was massive and immersed us with mind-blowing sound and lighting production by Laser Assassins. At the end of day one, UMEK was going strong at the after party on the back pool deck. The after parties were really special and continued beyond sunrise. There was even a pop up wedding ceremony curated by Mimosa and Dash Berlin.
Day two, I was up and ready to party! This was my favorite morning by far, probably because I got to have an impromptu breakfast with Cosmic Gate! Where else can you have a quality meal with your favorite DJs?! Nowhere! This is truly unique to Groove Cruise, and a big reason I came on this trip. I really loved connecting with the artists on a personal level.
The theme of day two was neon, and this was by far the most popular theme of the trip. Groove Cruise comes up with fun dress themes for each day and night like Mythological Gods and Chip N Dale dancers. My two favorite sets of the day party were Goldfish and Chocolate Puma. Both artists brought their unique sounds to the audience, and everyone loved it. They had the entire pool deck shuffling in the bliss of the moment.
Night two brought an epic mix of trance and Dash Berlin’s signature sound to the main theatre. Adam Scott set the tone of the night perfectly with his unique style, and even dropped Gareth Emery’s new masterpiece “Saving Light.” Next up were the legends Cosmic Gate. The boys from Germany showcased their brand new album “Materia” which sounds amazing! Dash Berlin came out swinging, and the completely packed theater was going crazy the entire time. Dash went through tracks from his entire catalogue, not missing a single beat. Anjunabeats star Grum closed out the night brilliantly.
Day three was here, and we finally arrived at Grand Turk! We could not have asked for better weather. The water was crystal blue, and there was not a grey cloud in sight. The beach party turned out to be everything I wanted and more. Everyone was turned up drinking delicious frozen drinks while grooving to the beat of Lavelle Dupree and Drums of the Sun. Borgeous came out full force with a nice blend of Bass, EDM and Hip Hop. He took breaks from the turntables to chill the crowd with champagne to the face.
Nobody wanted to leave the beach, but the party continued as soon as we got back to the ship. At the main pool, Tom Staar, Donald Glaude, and Dean Mason killed it, followed by the Dancetronauts, who brought their own dance troupe of gorgeous girls all decked out in white sparkly outfits. Night turned into morning at the AFT pool as we watched the glorious sunrise to the sounds of Lee Foss.
The final day, we danced our hearts out the EDX No Xcuses pool party, with Croatia Squad killing the opening set. I truly did not want the day to be over. It was pure joy.
As the sun set, everyone could barely contain their excitement for the Classics Closing Party at the AFT Pool that started at 2am and continued as we docked in Miami at 8am. Roger Sanchez and Oliver Dollar played b2b, it was incredible. The experience was nothing but dancing, love, and good vibes till the last drop. We felt united as one big family.
De-boarding the ship was bittersweet. We were simultaneously on cloud 9 but also exhausted from going hard for 96-hours straight. The Groove Cruise is unlike anything else out there- making it truly, the experience of a lifetime. I came on this trip not knowing anyone except my roommate and left with a whole new family. Can’t wait for the GC Family reunion on the next voyage, to be announced...
